Shirbul is an invented word in Hebrew for "remix" (as no such word yet exists). It is also the name of this compilation, which documents a process that started, almost by chance, about 5 years ago, and has developed into a full body of work. Some of these tracks are sung in Hebrew, some in English, but all the original tracks were made by Israeli Artists, and therefore “Shirbul” does not include any of the remixes that were made for international acts during these same years.
The compilation allows for a sneak view into Israel’s current off-center music scene, as seen through the lens (or shall we say, studio) of one member of its’ community, as well as some of it’s crossing paths with a global music sphere. Most of the remixes here were born out of a personal connection with the artists, while collaborating on other projects or simply out of appreciation of their work. As a producer, remixes allow you to re-imagine a song, re-contextualize it or just use it as a playground for new techniques and ideas.
